The Association of Eye Banks of Asia (AEBA) is formed under the auspices of the Asia Cornea Society in January 2009 as a supranational networking organsiation to bring eye banks in the region together to provide for:
- Co-operative efforts to enhance, regularize and unify eye banking standards and tissue procurement guidelines
- Promote advocacy and educational support for eye donation programs specific to Asian cultures and religions
- Assistance in further development of current eye banks in Asia, and establishment of new eye banks where they are most needed
- Establishment of Centre of Excellence for eye banking education and training
Specific AEBA Objectives includes:
- Establishment of an educational and networking AEBA website within the current Asia Cornea Society website
- Formulation of Asian standards and guidelines in eye banking, accreditation and certification of member eye banks
- Donor exchange initiatives to cope with elective and emergency demands in cornea tissues between Asian nations
- Formal affiliations of eye banks throughout Asia and affiliations with other international organizations
- Establishment of eye banking and cornea transplantation research programs within member Asian eye countries
